Details of this year’s Irish Scholarship opportunities for boys and girls (Coláiste Laighean, New Ross) have been announced.

The course is designed to improve students’ fluency and develop their understanding of Irish in a fun and educational environment. Thanks to the discount offered by Coláiste Laighean, the player and the Club will each have to pay €160 with Coiste na nÓg Loch Garman funding the balance. A combined payment from the player and his/her Club must be paid to Coiste na nÓg Loch Garman in the Spring and successful candidates will be notified of this date in due course.

Each Club may nominate no more than 2 players applicants.

All Buffers Alley families are welcome to submit expressions of interests to Seamus Kavanagh (Irish Officer)on O86 851 1036 before Wednesday next 14th March. If there are more than two families interested, a club draw will take place to decide which two names will be submitted to Wexford GAA for the county draw.

We are pleased to announce details of this year’s Irish Scholarship which is co-funded by Coiste na nÓg Loch Garman.
In 2018, Wexford GAA will part-fund scholarships for club members of secondary school age to attend a 2-week residential course in Coláiste Laighean, which is held in Good Counsel College New Ross. We have been offered a reduced rate by Coláiste Laighean for 21 Wexford GAA students and the scheme is based on the player, the player’s Club and Wexford GAA paying one-third each of the total cost.
The dates of the courses are as follows:

• 24 June – 8 July (for 2^nd to 5^th year students)
• 13 July – 27 July (for students just finished 6^th class to 2^nd years)

As interest levels in the scheme are likely to be particularly high this year Clubs are asked to number their applicants 1 and 2 (perhaps on the basis of a draw) as we may only be able to fund one player per Club. A draw will then be held at a Coiste na nÓg County Board meeting and priority will be given to Clubs who applied but were not successful in the 2017 scholarship draw.

Applications will only be accepted from GAA Clubs and nominations for this scholarship scheme (specifying the preferred course) should be submitted to irishculturalofficer.wexford@gaa.ie by Friday 16 March 2018.
