Jack Hall

Buffers Alley Player of the Past - Jack Hall

Presented with his award by Wexford GAA Supporters’ Club

Buffers Alley recall many fine hurlers and club people who have been familiar faces with club and county teams, but on this special occasion we pay a special tribute to Jack Hall who himself won two county under 21 medals wearing the green and gold jersey.

Jack commenced his hurling career with Buffers Alley in 1959 when he lined out on the juvenile team.  He has been an integral part of the club scene over the years competing in almost every grade in both hurling and football.  He is the holder of the following medals: 4 Senior hurling, 1 Intermediate hurling, 2 Under 21 hurling, 1 Intermediate football and 1 Junior football.  For many years he has been a selector with both the hurling and camogie clubs but surely the 17th March, 1989 was the proudest day of his life when, as a selector, he witnessed his club lift the Tommy Moore Cup following their All-Ireland club victory.

Jack has given many long years service as a player, mentor and committee member and was part of a team that have seen major developments materialise to the pitch and pavilion in Monamolin.  He is a good all-round clubman and is highly respected throughout the club and county.  Jack took on the onerous task of Bar Manager seven years ago and has done trojan work in this area.  He has always been available on training nights and match days and is such a familiar face around the place to young and old.  No job is too big for him and Jack always applied himself fully to the task in hand.  At the moment Jack is unable to be around the complex owing to illness and all of us in Buffers Alley send our best wishes and looking forward to seeing you behind the bar very soon again.

Jack is married to Lizzie and they have two sons Len and Kevin and a daughter Pauline.  The Halls now have added two rival club members to their family  – Kevin is married to Lorraine Dempsey(Oulart-The Ballagh) and Pauline has moved into the Mooney clan from Rathnure.  So long may hurling live in the Hall household.

Guimid gach rath agus taitneamh ar Jack sna blianta atá romhainn.
