Buffers Alley on the Move for Charity - Road to Croker
A novel fundraising campaign for local charities had the people of Buffers Alley on the move recently to provide much needed funds for local charities. The campaign was organized by players from the hurling and camogie teams and widely supported by club members, families, the local community and friends of Buffers Alley from near and far. The chosen charities were St Machain’s Conference which is the Kilmuckridge branch of St. Vincent de Paul and the Mental Health Charity Aware.
The fundraising campaign ‘Road to Croker’ re-created the trips made by Buffers Alley teams over the past forty years when they successfully won 5 Senior Camogie Club All-Ireland titles and 1 Senior Hurling All-Ireland Club title. Those journeys of the past were remembered and donations flooded in as the men, women and children of Buffers Alley walked, ran or cycled to clock up the kilometres. True to the spirit that exists in the local community, the target was exceeded both in terms of kilometres covered and donations received. The organizing committee of the ‘Road to Croker’ was astounded by the support and each charity has received the sum of €4004.42 to help with the great work they do.
On receipt of their cheque at the Buffers Alley GAA Grounds last week-end, Myles O’Connor Vice-Chairperson and Paddy Chawke, Treasurer of the local St Vincent de Paul expressed their gratitude to the club for the generous donation which Paddy said ‘will make all the difference to the lives of many deserving local families.’
Both charities are very grateful for the donations received from Buffers Alley, especially in the current times with restricted access to their regular fundraising campaigns. Frances Doran of the organizing committee thanked all the players, club members and the people of Kilmuckridge, Monamolin and beyond for their tremendous support for this fundraising venture.
